Gender free childhood?

It seems like when I was a kid in the 70’s that toys were more gender neutral. I had a castle playset I loved, and I often played with it and the neighbor boy. I wanted to get my daughters a castle playset, but all I could find were pink princess castles or black scary ones.

I also don’t like, when online shopping, it breaks the toys down by gender. I was looking for Cars clothes for my daughter who loves that movie, and I had a hard time because those were under boy clothes.

I feel like my childhood was more gender neutral. Maybe because I grew up in hippie and commune country (though my parents were not hippies), I had a race-free, gender-free childhood.
